Kurá Hulanda Curaçao bankrupt

The very luxurious hotel Kurá Hulanda in Willemstad on Curaçao is bankrupt. The hotel in Otrabanda was owned by the Dutch businessman Jacob Gelt Dekker. In 2000, Dekker bought and rented a number of beautifully restored buildings from the foundation Monumentenzorg. This wonderful piece of Otrabanda consists of several beautiful houses and Dekker opened the Kurá Hulanda Museum here.

Besides the hotel in Otrabanda, a branch was also opened in the west of Curacao. This is called the Kurá Holanda Lodge and is a large bungalow resort. Kurá Holanda had not been doing well financially for years, but no new investors could be found. It seems that the bankruptcy of the travel organization OAD has given the hotel on Curaçao the final push.

The Kurá Holanda Lodge remains open for the time being and tourists from Hotel Kurá Hulanda have been transferred to an alternative hotel. As a result of the Hotel's bankruptcy, approximately 110 islanders are losing their jobs.
